LINER NOTES
The Roaring 2020s is a dark jazz pop record, blending old-school jazz with modern dark pop production, alongside original songs.
The Roaring Twenties 100 years ago were defined by the dichotomy of glamour and struggle, political transformation, and marginalized groups fighting for equality. The Roaring 2020s are very similar. This album is shaped by these themes with reimagined dark jazz standards, political charity singles, modern suffragette anthems, ballads for resilient hope, and small moments of joy in a dark world.
I made a wish when I was nine years old to make this album, after watching Ken Burns’ documentary on Benny Goodman with my father in 2001. I realized then that I could grow up to be a jazz singer in the 20s too, just a century later. I vowed then to make a jazz album when I grew up and to do my part to keep jazz alive when the 20's came around again. This is that record.
