Learn about my modern version of the century old classic, I Wanna Be Loved By You. This is the first song I made to develop the sound for The Roaring 2020's.
TL;DR: I Wanna Be Loved By You
Back To The Future
Musical Time Travel
Time for a little music history lesson. The song I Wanna Be Loved By You is almost 100 years old. This jazz classic was written in 1928. The song was first recorded by singer Helen Kane, then famously sung again by Marilyn Monroe in the film "Some Like it Hot" in 1959. Fast forwarding another 60 years, I re-harmonized the melody and added new verses that shift the whole meaning of the song. What once was a song about craving love from someone else has now become a song about longing to be accepted by yourself.
This video put together helps you quickly hear all three versions so you can travel 100 years in time in 15 seconds.
The Official Video
As you know from the last email, I am a huge geek and do all my own video editing. The music video features special effects with mirrors which illustrate the message of the song. The hardest part was creating the two hands, no camera mirror shot . I even had to install cameras in my eyeballs to achieve the effect. ;)
Stop Motion Animation
Nodding my head to the old movie classics and choppy low video frame rates of the past, I created a stop motion lyric video for the song, combining it with displaying the lyrics as old movie titles. I taped a green screen onto my mirror and shifted each little thing on my dresser by hand one inch at a time. I know that kind of thing would drive some people crazy, but I genuinely love any repetitive tiny detail-driven project like that. It's the same reason why I love crochet and origami. I'm really proud of how the video turned out because it was actually my first attempt at creating stop motion animation.
In addition to the pop version, I made an acoustic version. Truth is it's because I can't stand having to decide between things. I like the pop version the best, but I feel like the acoustic inexplicably has vampire vibes, which I love. Which version the song is your favorite?

Lyrics
VERSE 1
When I'm craving rejection
I just look in the mirror
She's easy to hate
Cuz her skin never gets clearer
I couldn't sink lower
Than say that I know her
I couldn't admire her
I push her away
I can't hear what she's trying to say
CHORUS
I wanna be loved by you
Just you, nobody else but you
I wanna be loved by you alone
Boop boop be do
I wanna be loved by you
Just you, nobody else but you
I wanna be loved by you alone
Boop boop be do
VERSE 2
When you wanna see beauty
Please just look in the mirror
You're easy to love
There's no one sincerer
I couldn't aspire
To anything higher
Than to feel the desire
To make you my own
Can't you hear what I'm trying to say
REPEAT CHORUS x2
The Roaring 2020s
A satisfying challenge is blending contemporary pop together with subtle influences of old jazz. I've been hearing that strange combination blending in my head for a long time, which I captured for the very first time in this track. I'm trying to do my part to keep the classics alive while establishing my own sound. It's all part of my dream to help create The Roaring 2020's. I think a modern roaring twenties (one with more equality this time around) would be a wonderful thing to experience.
I included this song on my album Sexual Woman which i delivered to my previous label, frtyfve records. However, I will include it on The Roaring 2020s Part 2 with their permission, because in my heart, it was actually the first song of the double album. I used it as the core reference for many of the songs I spent the next two years working on! I was only signed to frtyfve records for 6 songs and chose not to renew after that. Instead I founded my own label, Frosty Records LLC. It's bascially the exact same as being an indie artist since it's still me doing everything, just with better accounting and a better attitude. <3

Thanks for reading about my music <3 There are many other posts still with deep dives behind all the music I have released so far. Enjoy.
